We first start our experience in the city of Antigua. Antigua is a small city surrounded by volcanoes in southern Guatemala. It’s renowned for its Spanish colonial buildings and architecture. We’ll spend 2 nights here to get settled into the Mayan culture. You’ll enjoy a delicious vegan bbq at Sangha on Sunday evening and a city tour Monday to explore the beautiful and colorful buildings.

Tuesday we head to the serene and peaceful Lake Atitlan where our true adventure begins! As you can see from the video above this is a very special place (though it’s rustic and many people live in poverty, don’t expect European luxury here, this is part of the charm of Central America). Lake Atitlan is one of the most renowned and beautiful lakes in the world! We have many adventures in store for you during the 4 days we spend here, but there will be plenty of time to relax as well!

Do you need vaccines:
See this website for more details. Make sure you take care of these at least 1 month in advance before the trip.

yoga-costaricaYoga and fitness classes are for all levels, whether you are just starting or a seasoned practitioner. All activities are optional. You can have as many or as little activity as you would like. All yoga & fitness equipment will be provided so you don’t need to bring your mat unless you really want to. For this adventure retreat you should be physically fit and able to walk stairs & hills comfortably and hike big mountains.

Hiking to Volcano – climbing time: 3-4 hours ascending and 2 for the way back, depending on your physical condition.

SUP and Zipling – paddle for 60-90 minutes along the shores of Santa Cruz la Laguna, Patzizotz, Jaibal, and the Buenaventura Bay. Hike through the jungle to 2 levels of ziplining for about 2 hours, then chill at the Nature Preserve before heading back.

Bring layers! For shoes bring comfortable walking shoes, thongs or sandals for daytime, and hiking shoes/boots if you feel like that’s necessary. A hat, visor, or bandana is advisable. Comfortable clothing for walking, and fitness clothing for yoga, fitness classes, and hiking is recommended. We recommend swimwear for swimming in the lake or something you don’t mind getting wet for kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding.

Other – all your necessities/toiletries, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, alarm clock, plug adapters, mini flashlight, day pack, grapefruit seed extract and oil of oregano for possible upset stomach or sickness (Imodium and electrolyte tablets if needed).

Travel Insurance is Mandatory!

This not only protects you and your safety abroad, it protects you in case of any last minute changes, unexpected events, or emergencies. You may not hold Christy, tour guides, or anyone at the hotels liable for injury and you waive right to any claims or liabilities you may incur during the retreat. Please make sure to include “cancel for any reason” coverage to your insurance policy. Get a quote here for travel insurance. Here’s another company.

You must have a valid passport that doesn’t expire for at least 6 months prior to the trip. Please check with your home country to make sure you may enter each country with a travel visa. This website is very helpful.

Use this calculator to find your country’s conversion rate. Be sure to have extra money for food/drinks gifts, clothing, and anything else you may want to buy. The best thing is to use an ATM rather than bringing money to change.
